On July 13, 1997 ETA murdered the popular councilman Miguel Angel Blanco after 48 hours keep kidnapped.
Today, 19 years later, he is still remembered and condemning an act that sparked what "spirit of Ermua" was called and brought to the streets millions of people with white hands in disgust at the terrorist group.
Eagle City Council also wanted to add to that memory today and in the street bearing the name of the murdered mayor has read out a manifesto by all political parties with municipal representation.
The mayor, Mari Carmen Moreno, stressed that "although, thankfully and the fight against terrorism of all political parties, ETA abandoned the armed struggle, we should not want to forget the victims of this barbarism."
