Eagles save 22 percent on your electric bill with energy efficiency measures in nine municipal buildings (05/08/2016)

The measures proposed in the audit would allow a reduction of CO2 emissions of 100 tons per year, equivalent to five football fields planted trees

The Institute of Development of the Region has undertaken, within the framework of the European project ELENA-Fuensanta, an energy audit that analyzed the consumption and energy performance of municipal buildings Eagles.

The report, after reviewing facilities, types of lighting, contract management or air conditioning systems, proposes to carry out a series of energy efficiency measures in nine municipal buildings, among which the passage of the luminaires to LED technology , which would allow the council to save up to 22 percent per year in electricity bills of these properties.

The Minister of Economic Development, Tourism and Employment, Juan Hernandez, today presented the results of this study to the mayor of the municipality, Maria del Carmen Moreno.

"The Eagles is one of 14 municipalities that have already developed these energy audits, a tool that allows us to make a snapshot of energy performance in municipalities, key players in the fight against climate change, and design efficiency measures to reduce energy consumption and emissions of greenhouse gases and promoting renewable energy, "Hernandez said.

In the case of Eagle, and after analyzing all municipal infrastructure, the audit proposes a series of measures that the City could save 63,438 euros per year, representing 22 percent of its current electricity bill, and They would stop issuing hundred tons into the atmosphere of CO2 per year, equivalent to five football fields planted trees.

These actions would involve an investment of about 205,039 euros a year, which would be amortized in just over three years.

The most important economic savings, up to 84 percent, comes from the replacement of LED lighting technology, a move that would save 53,270 euros a year.

In addition, the audit proposed bills optimize and improve the management of contracts, install photovoltaic generation systems and replacing HVAC equipment with more efficient models.

These measures relate to buildings of City Hall, the Auditorium and Congress Palace Infanta Elena, Residence San Francisco, the Placetón building and five schools and Primary Education (CEIP San Juan de Aguilas, URCI, Ramon y Cajal, The Rubial and Joaquin Shopkeeper).

Curbing climate change

The ELENA-Fuensanta project is an initiative of the European Commission and the European Investment Bank (EIB) which aims to support investment projects in the fields of energy efficiency, renewable energy or sustainable urban transport, facilitating financing energy program intelligent Europe to assist administrations, particularly local.

In the region are fourteen municipalities that have signed agreements with info within the framework of this project.

Have already executed a total of 18 projects have involved an investment of 9,177,074 euros involving energy saving of 8.01 million Kw / h generating 4 million Kw / h in renewable energy.

This means that with the measures taken so far in this European project, has managed to stop emitting 2,640 tons of CO2 into the atmosphere, equivalent to the daily consumption of 1,500 cars on the roads in the region for a year .

In total, the project will mobilize an investment of close to 40 million euros, which will save on energy bills of municipalities and other administrations of more than 4.5 million euros a year and a saving in energy consumption at least 40 percent, and a reduction of emissions of greenhouse gases more than 11,800 tons annually.

Boosting energy efficiency

The Minister Juan Hernandez recalled that the region "is at the forefront of promoting energy efficiency and renewable energy consumption".

In fact, aid for energy saving and efficiency as well as renewable convened by the Ministry, through the Directorate General of Industrial Activity and Energy and Mining, equipped with more than 2,330,000 euros, "were a big success, having received a total of 121 requests from companies, "explained Hernandez.

"This shows that policies to encourage efficiency and use of renewable energy are bearing fruit and, moreover, due to high demand, next year is expected that such aid tripling whose novelty is that recipients develop their projects when they receive the items and not once have done the job, "added the director.
