Plaza of Spain yesterday became the scene of the events planned from the Department of Culture to mark the Day of Esparto;
a day that serves to pay tribute to that for many years was one of the most important sectors of the local economy and to avoid, at the same time, the Espartera tradition disappears.
For over two hours the numerous spectators who came to the Glorieta could enjoy the spectacle of live to work esparteros artisans who held an exhibition of work with traditional spinning wheel.
Aquiline and visitors were surprised with the expertise and skill of professional spinners.
Another presentation that concentrated gaze of all attendees was dedicated to Mussonas costumes Carnival, made almost entirely with Esparto.
The day concluded with the recognition and tribute to those linked to Esparto to the mayor of Eagle, Mari Carmen Moreno;
the mayor of Culture, Lucia Hernandez;
and the coordinator of the acts, Juan Hernandez, delivered plates recognition.
So they were recognized artisans of Torre Pacheco, Antonio Segura and Jose Sanchez;
aquiline Jose Pinero and Miguel Hernandez, whom the autonomous community has recently accredited as honorary artisans;
and also aquiline Pedro Roman, Bernardo Asensio and Juan Rondán, the latter posthumously.
