The balcony of the City of Eagle looks since yesterday a big pink ribbon as a symbol of the fight against breast cancer.
It was made last year by the women in the group "Much to Live," and has been placed for the second consecutive year by the mayor of Eagle, Mari Carmen Moreno, and the president of the AECC, Magdalena Ros, which have been accompanied by a large number of members of the municipal corporation and women of AECC.
This symbolic act is part of the activities planned to mark the World Day Against Breast Cancer held on Wednesday October 19.
The mayor, Mari Carmen Moreno, stressed the importance of "women come to mammograms, to detect the disease at a stage where it can be properly treated for a speedy recovery."
Coinciding with the eve of the commemoration of World Day Breast Cancer, the local board of the Spanish Association Against Cancer (AECC), in collaboration with the Department of Health of the City of Eagle, placed yesterday an information stand at the Square Spain, from where they conducted an awareness campaign aimed at the prevention and detection of the disease.
19 OCTOBER, WORLD DAY AGAINST BREAST CANCER
Each year, October 19 is celebrated the Day Against Breast Cancer as a reminder of the commitment of the whole society in the fight against breast cancer.
Educate women about the importance of knowing the techniques of breast self-examination, regular check-ups and mammograms are essential to catch it early.
Early diagnosis is vital as it depend on the chances of healing, which can be 100% if detected in time.
Today, it is the most common among women in both developed countries and developing those tumor.
It is estimated that the risk of cancer mamaa throughout life is about 1 in 8 women.
In Spain some 26,000 cases diagnosed annually, accounting for almost 30% of all tumors of the female in our country.
Most cases are diagnosed between 35 and 80 years, with a peak between 45 and 65. Both the number of cases and incidence rates increase slowly in Spain and in the world, probably due to aging population and an increasingly early diagnosis.
