Another difficulty of the maneuver is the exact ignorance of the mass distribution of the ship, which was abandoned by its owner in the port and of which there are no precise plans
Once out of the water, the ship will be deposited on a layer of geotextile and gravel that has spread in the port to begin immediately with its scrapping
The engineers of Ports of the Ministry of Development and Infrastructures, along with technicians and divers of Maritime Salvage and Maritime Captaincy of the Ministry of Public Works, continue with the complex technical work to refloat the sailboat Penélope, after its sinking in the waters of the port of Eagles.
The Minister of Development and Infrastructure, Pedro Rivera, explained that "this operation is very complicated both from an operational and engineering point of view, in which the technicians have extracted the vessel by analyzing the stability and characteristics of the Penelope, with 145 tons and 38.8 meters in length, and its load for the maneuver of reflote and ground ".
The stability of the ship is exposed to numerous factors that may have an influence on the unloading operation of such a heavy ship.
For this reason, the technical teams pay special attention to the calculations and considerations necessary to guarantee the safety of the operation.
The divers will weld two new anchor points in the bow so that the center of gravity of the chains, which are pulled by two special cranes of 150 tons each, coincides with the metacentre of the sunken ship to give stability to the Cranes during maneuvers.
The two anchor pairs should not be too far apart because the hull could be split at the time of raising the boat 38.8 meters in length and loaded with water.
Another difficulty of the operation is the ignorance of the exact distribution of masses of the ship, which was abandoned years ago by its owner in the port of Aguilas and of which there are no precise plans.
Once the unloading operation of the ship is completed, it will be deposited on a bed of gravel in the esplanade of the port of Aguilas to start the scrapping work, which is expected to last 30 or 40 days, and once completed will be removed The remains of the sailboat to a municipal deposit.
The Penelope boat was the first recreational sailboat built with aluminum in 1968, in the French shipyards Eugene-Cornu.
