The Ministry of Development and Infrastructure develops actions to bring to shore the yacht Jazmine, which is abandoned in the port of Aguilas.
Salvador García-Ayllón, the director general of Transport, Coast and Ports, issued an emergency resolution asking the owner of the yacht, 34 meters in length, to remove the ship from the sea "because it is very deteriorated and is in danger of collapse ".
Currently, Salvamento Marítimo, at the request of the Ministry of Development and Infrastructures, is carrying out inspection and decontamination of the yacht, in order to identify the dangerous and flammable elements that may have and avoid possible leakage.
To carry out these works, an anti-turbulence barrier has been placed to protect the perimeter of the boat.
In addition, we are working on rebalancing the yacht, as it is steered to the right, and in sealing the areas where possible leaks could be detected.
Likewise, the Ministry has collected reports of fishermen in the area, the Maritime Captaincy and owners of nearby boats on the state and the situation of the yacht.
If the owner of the ship did not carry out the necessary operations to remove it from the water, it would be the Ministry that would carry out it subsidiarily, with charge of the holder.
García-Ayllón explained that "this operation has not been possible until a situation of manifest danger of collapse has been detected, due to the absence of legal tools in the current law of Ports, whose modification is being processed in the Regional Assembly ".
The director general emphasized that "during the time that the ship has been abandoned the Ministry has imposed numerous coercive fines on the owner for illegal occupation of a mooring in the port."
The Jazmine yacht was a gift from actor Richard Burton to his wife, actress Elisabeth Taylor.
The Welsh actor bought the boat from the owner Aristotle Onassis.
Liz Taylor sold it and after passing through several owners ended up abandoned in the port of Eagles.
