Next Friday the aquiline Sierra de Pinilla will be bombarded with more than 8,000 seed bombs;
An action included in the projects Forests for Eagles, developed by the Department of Environment of the City of Eagles.
The presentation of this "exciting action", in the words of the mayor of the town, Mari Carmen Moreno, took place this morning at the premises of Rotorsun, a company located in the town that will be responsible for carrying out, in a totally disinterested way, This aerial seeding from one of its helicopters.
During the event, the mayor of Environment, Isabel Maria Torrente, explained that it is "a pioneering environmental action in Spain, using the technique of nendo-dango, and aimed at repopulating one of the few areas of forest in our town that In recent years has begun to be lost due to drought and pests of processionaria and barrenillo.
The event was also attended by users of the Urci Occupational Center who, along with more than 3,500 schoolchildren from all local schools, users of the Alzheimer association and members of the Scout groups, have been in charge To elaborate these pumps composed of clay, peat and seeds of pinion pine, carrasco pine, algarrobo and almez.
The materials that compose them avoid their dehydration while protecting them from birds and insects.
The clay - as explained by Ignacio García, manager of Rotorsun and forestry, will remain hard as long as the atmosphere is dry but the moment the rain falls on the pumps will release the seed allowing its germination.
In this sense, the first aquiline mayor emphasized that "the project has a double benefit: on the one hand, the reforestation of an emblematic area of our municipality and, on the other, the awareness of all schoolchildren who have taken part in the activity."
The action, which will take place on an area of approximately 20 hectares of forest, has a success rate of 5%, ie, 8,000 bombs will germinate about 400. An amount that may seem small is very important , Especially if we have in mind that the City of Eagles intends to maintain this project.
