"Welcome to Chuecos".
This project is called the End of Grade project for the student of the Higher Technical School of Architecture and Engineering of Building of the Universidad Politécnica de Cartagena (UPCT), María Medina, whose objective is to reorder a natural space of Eagles as a place for the development of Ecological agriculture, environmental education and research, and sustainable tourism in nature.
The project, tutored by teachers Marcos Ros and Fernando García, is the first one presented by a school student who focuses on landscape management.
After two years of work, Medina has devised an environmental park on a farm where environmental regeneration activities are already being carried out.
For this, the young woman has analyzed this semi-arid strip of the peninsula's east and has developed a management plan with actions that include the network of roads to expand and improve it, establishing different transits and an architectural part to rehabilitate the existing heritage.
"There is a defensive watch tower from the Hispano-Muslim era, a set that is a noble house with a cellar of considerable heritage importance," said the UPCT student, who believes that the area could be used to produce organic farming and that produces A tourist interest.
"The ideal thing is that the action carried out in the area has a very high degree of reversibility, that at any moment can be returned to the initial state of the park," he said.
The student has pointed out that she spoke with the owners of the Castillo de Chuecos estate, which covers an area of 400 hectares and was quite impressed by the project.
"At the moment tourism is not developing anything, but to do it would require a very powerful investment."
