The historic recovery of the Bay of Hornillo and the elements that make it a unique enclave is one of the objectives of the Governing Team of the City of Eagles, convinced of the excellence of this enclave as a tourist attraction of the town.
In this regard, the mayor of the municipality, Mari Carmen Moreno, has announced that the City Council has presented the project Historical Recovery of the island of the Fraile to the program of 1.5% Cultural, launched by the Ministry of Public Works to subsidize Historical heritage restoration actions.
The mayor has assured that, although the number of projects that concur to this program is very high, the uniqueness of the one presented by the City of Eagles makes us have good prospects.
In addition, the first mayor continued, we believe that it is the right moment to act on the island of the Friar because, although the present conditions are not bad, erosion and carcasses produced by the evacuation of rainwater are progressively deteriorating the place ".
It should be noted that the importance and uniqueness of this enclave, potentially one of the largest Roman salting factories in Tarraconense, made it worthy of the declaration of BIC, with a historical site category.
Specifically, the actions proposed in the project, budgeted at just over 650,000 euros, include the installation of a retractable pontoon for restricted use to access to the island boats intended for work, as well as guided tours;
The conditioning of a path that allows to carry out the excavation works and a tourist route by the zone;
And the archaeological excavation of an area of the island of the Fraile, concretely in the one they present rest of pools of fish salting.
