"Environmental education in the marine environment: initiatives and design of underwater itineraries" is the title of a course at the International University of the Sea-Campus Mare Nostrum to be held in the town of Águilas from September 12 to 15.
The initiative seeks to disseminate the values and problems of the marine environment as a starting point for addressing environmental education programs.
According to those responsible, a key aspect of biodiversity conservation is that the public should know, value and be involved in its preservation, acting as responsible consumers and favoring clean energies.
In order for this involvement to occur, they must be made aware of sufficient information.
The course addresses this training need in the field of Mediterranean marine biodiversity.
This initiative aims to introduce participants to the keys and tools to properly develop environmental education projects in the marine environment, and especially in marine protected areas, with an emphasis on a tool - the underwater itinerary - that is ideal to start in the knowledge of Mediterranean marine ecosystems.
The course is organized in three blocks: introduction to Mediterranean marine biodiversity, presentation of experiences of information campaigns on these topics, and theoretical and practical presentations of submarine itineraries.
The course is led by UMU Ecology professor José A. García Charton and coordinated by environmental biologists and educators Sara Montoya and Virginia Pina (Arenaria Environmental Education).
The activity lasts for 30 hours and those who enroll will be entitled to 3 Free Setup Credits or 1 Crau Credit.
