Nov. 16.
The popular councilman, Francisco J. Clemente, has presented a proposal to the ordinary Plenary of November to recognize the daily work that the Daughters of Charity have been doing in our municipality for many years.
Clemente continues commenting that since 1947, the Daughters of Charity, an order born in 1617, ran the Hospital of San Francisco de Águilas, where they performed a commendable work until its closure, with special dedication to the most disadvantaged and the elderly, as established his charisma.
Under the auspices of the Hospital Board, they create in our town the First School with rooms transformed into classes for poor children.
Being declared in 1960 a school of "social interest".
According to the popular council, over the years have been expanding the educational offer in the town, ranging from the Children's Cycle to Secondary, which was authorized by the Ministry of Education in 1996.
For all this, concludes Francisco J. Clemente, the Daughters of Charity in their work as a religious community have collaborated intensively throughout all this time in the development of the city of Águilas, leaving an indelible mark on many aquilines, and what better recognition than being named "Daughters of the City".
