The mayor of Tourism, Ginés Desiderio Navarro, has released the data regarding the economic impact that golf tourism has had in our municipality throughout the year 2017 and reflecting a total revenue of 1,922,488 euros.
Navarro explained that throughout the just concluded year there have been a total of 12,111 overnight stays linked to golf tourism, of which 10,268 are of foreign origin and 1,843 national, with a daily expenditure of 170 euros in the case of international tourism and 96 in the case of national tourism, according to figures from the study The economic impact of golf in the Region of Murcia, prepared by the Institute of Tourism of the Region of Murcia and the University of Murcia.
The mayor, who has described as "very positive these figures", has underlined the importance for these results have been actions such as the presence in the International Golf Festival of Golf IGTM Águilas Golf Destination, an alliance that emerged almost three years ago in the companies Aguilón Golf, Lorca Golf, Tourist Apartments Águilas de Los Collados, Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel, Southeast Incoming and the Águilas City Council, which coordinate efforts for the marketing and promotion of the product.
"During their stay in Cannes, Águilas Golf Destination offered more than fifty tour operators from all over Europe a new concept of golf where players not only enjoy this sport but also the city, its culture and gastronomy and its beaches, "the mayor has assured.
The councilor has also referred to the induced effects that this type of tourism has in the locality, such as the creation of employment, the tourist seasonality, the diversification of products, the increase of the diversification of emitting markets or the improvement of the image outside of the destination Águilas, among others.

Continuing with the results obtained in the tourist fairs, the mayor has also referred to the important contacts established in the last edition of the World Travel Market in its thirty-seventh edition.
"A fair considered the most important in the world in which it has been possible to contact operators interested in the promotion and sale of tourist products in our municipality" - Navarro said, adding that in particular a working meeting has been held with a operator from China, eight from Spain, two from France, one from the Netherlands, two from India, one from Malaysia, three from Portugal, thirteen from the United Kingdom and three with trans-European operators.
