The Águilas City Council, through the service concessionaire, has started a cleaning campaign with the aim of eliminating gum embedded in the pavement.
For this purpose during the next weeks a special cleaning operation will be developed, integrated by three operators.
The procedure, as explained by the mayor of the area, Isabel Fernandez, "consists of a first application of hot water under pressure in order to soften the gum, then an operator removes them with the help of a spatula.
Next, pressurized water is again applied to eliminate, as far as possible, the stains and, finally, mechanically scrubbing the area to equalize the surface. "
A job that, assured the mayor is slow and expensive and could be avoided with the simple gesture of throwing the gum into the bin;
"something that, in addition, would allow us to allocate such material and human resources to carry out cleaning works in other areas of the locality".
