Tomorrow, Wednesday is celebrated the Day of the Tree and to commemorate the day the Department of Environment of the City of Águilas has scheduled a series of activities that have begun today and that will last until March 22.
Among the planned actions highlights the free distribution of carob tree seedlings, symbolic tree of the Spanish southeast.
The distribution, which has begun today and will continue until next Thursday, has the collaboration of users of the Occupational Center Urci, responsible for distributing, from 10 in the morning to 13 in the Plaza de España, said seedlings, from the municipal nursery installed in the Urci Occupational Center and taken care of by the users themselves.
Tomorrow, in collaboration with the Department of Equality, there will be an excursion to the Cuesta de Gos to visit one of the 5 monumental trees that are cataloged in our municipality, specifically the almond of the Cuesta de Gos, a tree with extraordinary dimensions , about 4 meters in perimeter and 8 meters in height;
continuing the activities at 12:30 hours with a tree planting in the patio of the Joaquín Tendero Public School.
The day will end at 19:30 hours at the Adult School with a talk and exhibition entitled "Medicinal plants: from witchcraft to science".
The day of Thursday will include, with the Association of relatives and people with mental illness of Águilas y Comarca (AFEMAC), an exit to the surroundings of El Saltaor Mill where the users of this center will place nest boxes made by them and a repopulation will be carried out in the margins of the promenade with native trees (fig, white mulberry and white poplar) with this is intended to maintain and improve the protective function on soil and water resources, controlling erosion;
improve the water regime and regulation of flows.
