The hall of the Municipal Center of the Third Age has received this morning the ceremony of delivery of diplomas to the 60 students participating in the project of "Digital literacy in mobile devices for the elderly", given by Iniciativas El Gigante Foundation and the Vodafone Spain Foundation with the collaboration of the City Council.
The closing ceremony was attended by the mayor of the town, Mari Carmen Moreno, the mayor of the Third Age, Encarna Navarro, the president of the Center for the Third Age, Juana González, the president of the Iniciativas el Gigante Foundation, Francisco Perán, and the representative of the Vodafone Foundation in Murcia, María Belén Gil.
During the ceremony, Moreno stressed that the training program "is complemented by the commitment made by the City of Águilas to incorporate ICT in the day to day of our elders, thus promoting active aging and reducing vulnerability in this group."
For its part, Belén Gil stressed that "the emergence of advanced mobile devices, on the one hand, and the emergence of mobile broadband, on the other, have generated a new communication environment that older people have to assimilate to be able to benefit from new services that will help them live with greater personal autonomy and independence. "
Hence the importance of the Digital Literacy Project in mobile devices for the elderly that has allowed the development of a total of 5 free workshops.
For Francisco Perán, the project has been a great opportunity to bring new technologies to the elderly in order to boost their self-esteem, social connectivity and self-confidence, thus improving their quality of life.
