Águilas joined yesterday to commemorate the International Day of the Gypsy People with a program of activities organized by the town council and the Pochibo Caló Association.
The events began at the door of the City Council, on whose balcony the gypsy flag waved throughout the day, with the reading of the institutional manifesto of the Fundación Secretariado Gitano by the mayor of Águilas, Mari Carmen Moreno, and various members of the association Pochibo Caló.
After the most institutional part of the event, all the attendees went to the Royal Scale where the symbolic "river ceremony" took place, in memory of the victims of the Second World War;
an emotional act that was set by the singers of the local group La Morería.
The program of activities was completed, already in the Fairground, with a fashion show of the students of the Patternmaking and Sewing Workshop, an initiative launched by the Department of Equality of the City of Águilas, aimed at the group of Roma women;
an exposition of artisan mastery and another one of katas, and a food of brotherhood.
It should be noted that the day also served to deliver, on the part of the association, the "gypsy rod" to the mayor Tomás Consentino.
"A symbol - said the president of the association, Donato Muñoz - of respect for the person who receives it and in this case we give the council for their support to the Gypsy group of Eagles."
