The mayor of Eagle, Giménez Hernández Bartolomé, today opened the VII Scientific Meeting of Bioinorganic that from Monday until Tuesday morning, held at the Hotel Puerto Juan Montiel, with the assistance of a hundred people, among them including several researchers from Portugal, Argentina and Paraguay.
Organized by the University of Murcia, this meeting every two years to promote the Spanish Association of Bioinorganic, this edition has the uniqueness of having a large number of international participants.
Bioinorganic chemistry is an interdisciplinary branch of knowledge devoted to the study of biological systems that contain metal ions.
Involves several areas of knowledge such as: inorganic chemistry, organic, biochemistry, physiology and microbiology, among others.
The implications of these studies have in many areas very relevant to society are obvious.
Is to investigate issues such as the influence of metals in various diseases, the study drug, understanding life processes and their potential shortcomings, the creation of new materials that can overcome these diseases, etc..
The Association carries out various activities mentioned to encourage the study of Bioinorganic and the interplay between Spanish groups that engage in research in this field.
The number of members has grown from 20 in 2002 to over 120 today.
Similarly, participation in the biennial has grown from 60 attendees in 2000 to 107 in the last meeting.
