A Japanese delegation visiting the region to learn about horticulture facilities (21/11/2012)

A Japanese delegation on Monday visited the Region of Murcia to learn about horticulture facilities, which were particularly interested in everything related to the tomato crop.

Members of the delegation belong to an association created in 1972, which brings together various agencies and companies involved in greenhouse vegetable production.

Its goal is to capture information to modernize the country's structures Japan, for which they have collaboration with various research institutes and professors from different universities.

This organization runs program each year by various countries to assess the degree of modernization of their production areas.

For the first time, has included the region of Murcia in its program of visits, to know the progress made by the regional government through various programs.

The Japanese delegation, headed by the director of the association and the first secretary of the embassy, ​​was received at the Ministry of Agriculture for the Food Industry CEO and agricultural training, Lidón Angel Garcia, who referred to the progress in horticulture intensive, efficient use of water, biological pest control and modernization of production structures.

Lidón Garcia said that in a growing area of ​​48,000 hectares, the Murcia region produces a total of 1.5 million tons of vegetables, and that the value of exports exceeds 900 million euros, with the main target UK , Germany and France.

He also stressed the quality and food safety of our crops.

Technical visit

The Japanese delegation began its visit at the experimental farm 'El Mirador', run jointly by the Ministry of Agriculture and Agricultural Cooperatives Federation, where they learned about the different variety trials carried out.

Later, they visited the company 'Agriculture and Export', which has pioneered install a cogeneration plant that uses the heat energy obtained during the production of electricity for heating in winter and cooling in summer their greenhouses.

There could also check the operation of the recovery and purification system of gas, allowing the use of CO2 as a fertilizer in greenhouses, thereby releasing this lesser amount of gas into the atmosphere.

In the afternoon, visited the facilities of the Farm 'Paloma', in Aguilas, where they learned the high-tech greenhouses where tomatoes are grown using a hydroponic system and biological control of major pests.

Technicians and Japanese researchers showed great interest in the system and able employee efficiency achieved with the release of insects.

The members of the Japanese delegation praised the achievements of modernization programs developed by the regional administration and the ongoing search for solutions to address the requirements of European legislation on the environment and food safety for consumers.
