The event was chaired by the Minister of Agriculture and Water, Antonio Cerdá, and the mayor of Eagle, Bartolomé Hernández, who were accompanied by Régis Philippe, CEO of Culmárex Group and Glenn Cooke, CEO of Cooke Aquaculture, among other officials and guests.
The company has expanded its facilities, which let you optimize and streamline the packaging process bream and sea bass, with a processing capacity of up to 24,000 tons.
In addition, it will allow increased jobs, for a total of 140 workers.
During the inauguration, Bartolome Hernandez said the roots of the firm Culmárex in the town, recalling that "it was the first aquaculture company in the Region of Murcia. Started its activity in 1985 in the Bay of Stove, dedicated to the cultivation of Seriola. In 1987 became Culmárex, and focused its production on bream and sea bass. "

Cerdá, emphasized that "Murcia leads growing seabass and seabream in Spain" and added that the region "has limited coast", with 250 kilometers and an operating fleet of over 200 vessels, mostly artisanal part and 14 mariculture facilities.
This sector generates about 1,000 direct jobs and a total fish production reaches a value of more than EUR 75 million, of which aquaculture contributed 68.5 million last year and more than 11,000 tons of production.
He said the research "has made possible, in collaboration with business, increase the number of species to grow, with extraordinary growth performance, and every day new species are incorporated."
He also said that the new European Maritime Fisheries Fund 2014-2020 "will contribute and will continue to promote the green growth of this activity within an integrated maritime policy."
He explained that aquaculture "is a future activity in the region," adding that in the last 30 years the global growth of this activity has been an 8 percent annually.
He said that in recent years "has become a strategic activity" and noted that aquaculture accounts for nearly 50 percent of seafood for human consumption.
Culmárex Group
The Culmárex Group is dedicated to the breeding and marketing of sea bream and bass for 24 years, with fish farms spread across the Mediterranean coast.
Directly employs 500 people and generates more than three indirect jobs in different areas of economic activity.
The parent company is Cooke Aquaculture, based in New Brunswick (Canada), which employs more than 2,000 workers in Canada, Chile and Scotland, in addition to Spain.
