Eagle City Council has achieved a 80% saving in electricity consumption Gutiérrez Mellado's Square and the surrounding streets, thanks to the installation of new LED luminaires seventy replace the old existing lamps in the area.
As explained councilors of Industry and New Technologies, Carlos Bartholomew and Juan José Asensio, it is an initiative included in the Plan of Action for Sustainable Energy (PAES) Eagles, which is part of the commitments made within the Covenant of Mayors, a document that seeks to involve municipalities as institutions closer to the citizen in the fight against global warming by improving energy efficiency, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy production and use cleaner.
The deputies have detailed that the new bulbs placed in the vicinity of that roundabout help reduce emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) into the atmosphere dioxide, obtaining a daily saving of $ 11 compared to what had been paying for this area City, who has spent almost 14 euros less than 3 euros a day.
Another advantage is that LED lights do not contain potentially harmful chemicals, so the risk of injury in case of breakage is reduced to zero.
The total project cost amounts to 14,784 euros, which will be amortized in just over three years.
It has been funded with a budget surplus, under the remaining liquid cash, thanks to savings made in the management of public money and following the guidelines set by the Organic Law of Budgetary Stability and Financial Sustainability, which allows to invest these revenues in certain actions .
