The Minister of Health and Social Policy, Catherine Lawrence, confirmed today during his visit to the Day Centre Association of People with Mental Illness Eagles and its region (AFEMAC), the commitment of his department with the mentally ill "to we are devoting significant resources, both from the Instituto Murciano Social Action (IMAS) and from the Murcia Health Service ".
Catalina Lorenzo, who was accompanied by Mayor Eagle, Bartolome Hernandez, and the CEO of Persons with Disabilities of IMAS, John Brown, stressed that the IMAS increased by 21 the number of places for people with chronic mental illness during 2014 and the total resources from the agency to mental illness exceeded 13.5 million.
In this regard indicated that the Region of Murcia currently offers seats 387 in day centers, 288 residences and 50 in sheltered housing for people with chronic mental illness, adding that a wide health care network, through Health Centers Mental Region of Murcia, "in which working every day to improve the care of these patients, both from a health and social perspective".
In this regard, Catalina Lorenzo recalled that yesterday the work professionals Murciano Health Service have developed, through the 'Intégrame Project', to approach from Primary Care schizophrenia was presented.
Visit AFEMAC
The Association of People with Mental Illness Eagles and its region (AFEMAC) was established in 2005 and has a day center in Aguilas, with the IMAS has hired 25 seats in the amount of 279,165 euros for the whole 2015.
The professionals attending this center (psychologist, social worker, carers, monitors and nurses) develop a series of psychosocial rehabilitation programs with users, which also provide psychological, social care, health education and occupational.
At the meeting with professionals and members of the association, Catalina Lorenzo praised the "excellent" work done with users to enhance the quality of life of people with mental illness and their families.
