A resident of Eagle delivers a Roman amphora AVA 16 kilos (18/03/2010)

Has already yielded its first fruits, the campaign "We amphorae", launched last week at the Band Eagles AVA-Aquilegia Neighborhood Watch Forum in order to raise awareness, restore and incorporate the archaeological heritage.

Thus, a resident of Eagles AVA has been delivered to a nearly complete jug, about 16 kilos of weight, which apparently belongs to Roman times.

The piece could come from one of the numerous wrecks located in the coastal seabed aquiline and according to his owner, he was given years ago by a councilor.

By knowing the AVA campaign, this neighbor has been quick to provide it to the Association to certify its authenticity and pass to swell the cultural heritage of Eagles, on the condition that it be returned if it is a fake

In this regard, after a careful visual inspection of the amphora, specialists in Archaeology and Ancient History have indicated to the Neighborhood Association that the piece is authentic, coming from Roman times and can be dated around the first century BC.

A sample of its components has been sent to the Centre 'Camille Jullian' of Mediterranean Archaeology at the University of Provence (France) to be subjected to an analysis of clays, know its composition and determine its exact age.

AVA still remains open such a campaign, aimed at those who are in possession of pieces of archaeological interest to the Museum delivered informing the Eagles or Neighborhood Association itself through its e-mail: ava_aguilas@yahoo.es

The Law on Cultural Heritage in the Region of Murcia clearly states the obligation of any person or entity, whether public or private, to give the objects or archaeological and paleontological significance of particular pieces of furniture that have come into his possession for any reason, even if they have a deposit.

The law provides that these parts should be delivered immediately to the responsible agencies in the field of cultural heritage, being the competent authority may proceed to recover automatically.

The president of the Neighborhood Association Aquilegia, Alberto F.

Giordano expressed his satisfaction "with the excellent response from the aquiline, who seem aware of the need to protect cultural heritage and archaeological objects not speculate," recalling that the current legislation vigorously pursues and punishes trafficking, ownership and sale of these parts.
